I don’t know about you, but I’m getting really annoyed with feel-good articles about ‘what happy and confident people do’ and nature scenes overlaid with inspirational quotes.

You see, it was maybe 5 years ago when I first caught wind of the ‘Self-Love Revolution’ that was starting to seep into Internet-land.

Like a lot of people I know, when I first started looking into this notion that I actually could live from a place of feeling good about myself, two thoughts immediately came into my mind:

[soul whisper] Wow. That sounds absolutely wonderful. I didn’t even know that was possible, but it gives me hope and feels so right.

[snarky perfection monster] Oh sure, that’s all well and good for HER, but you are a MESS. You can’t even lose 10 pounds or get that guy to take you on a real date or manage to get 8 hours of sleep in a night. How can YOU love yourself when there is so much you SUCK at?

Guess which voice won?

Fast forward a couple of years, and the self-love movement has exploded. You can find a thousand and eight articles out there giving you steps to love yourself more, and plenty of books and practices and formulas for ‘thinking your way to love’ and ‘putting yourself first’. In fact, if you aren’t actively working on being more open// loving// spiritual// happy all the time, there’s probably something wrong with you.

Ever felt THAT way?

Like, “If I could just be more accepting or patient or loving toward[insert whatever is freaking PISSING YOU OFF here], then everything else would be perfect?”

There is an epidemic in the Self Love Industry.

Things are different than they used to be. Somehow, radical self-acceptance and healing your relationship with ALL parts of yourself has given way to endlessly scrolling through mis-quoted Buddha images and liking other people’s declarations that they feel so #blessed all the damn time and you should too because if you don’t you’re stupid. Or something like that.

First of all, what does that even mean.

Second of all, I have this sneaking suspicion that your snarky perfection monster has miraculously survived through all of those ‘Likes’ and is taunting you about your obvious inadequacy compared to über -cool girl you met once at a party who is constantly posting party pics and soul selfies that show how obviously perfect her life is.

This game of who is more loving and spiritual and grateful is just another way to keep us striving for a perfection beyond where we currently are.

It keeps you in your head and in a place of competition, rather than tuning in first to your body and allowing that little whisper, that voice from your soul, to actually be heard.

Liking inspirational quotes on Pinterest or reading an article on loving yourself isn’t going to change anything. You know it, and I know it. So why do we still do it???

Because we are trying to love ourselves from a place of logic. We are led to believe we can rationally create love- step by step, following this or that formula.

How many times have you been told to just “THINK your way to a perfect life!”

Hmm??

The media knows this. ‘Self-Love’ is everywhere these days. They know if you get a flair of feel-good juju, it will be easier to ignore the pain and discontent building inside of you.

But here’s the thing. It doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t have to be a part of this fake self love nonsense. You can walk away from the bullshit and actually listen to your soul-voice.

All change starts with movement. If you want to experience consistent, REAL self-love, not just the ‘feel good fuzzy wuzzy not actually making any difference’ kind, it begins in your body.

This is why I’m launching my Embodied Self Love 60 Day Intensive.

I’m done with allowing the people I love and the amazing women I know and will get to know remain slaves to wishy washy platitudes and thinly disguised self-hate.

This intensive is for you if, somewhere inside of you, you desperately want to look in the mirror and deeply accept and love who you see.

It’s for you EVEN MORE if you read that, said ‘yes!’ and immediately heard your snarky perfection monster tutting in your ear, filled with all the reasons why you can’t actually have that until you do x, y, or z (lose 10 pounds! get that job! be the perfect mom!).

Are you ready to create a love that comes not from outside of you, but within you?
